Lithium methoxide (CAS 865-34-9) is a white, fine crystalline solid with the molecular formula CH?LiO, featuring high purity grades such as 97%, 98%, and 99%. It is soluble in methanol but nearly insoluble in most aprotic organic solvents, and is also commercially available as a solution in methanol.
It is primarily used as a strong base and catalyst in organic synthesis, especially in transesterification reactions, esterifications, deprotonations of weakly acidic substrates, and as a key intermediate and reagent in pharmaceutical and fine chemical manufacturing.
