Steps:
1.A Step A:
To a solution of compound 1 (80.0 g, 605.0 mmol) in diethyl ether (1000 mL) two drops of triethylamine were added with stirring at 0°C. PBr3(75.0 g, 277.1 mmol) was added over 1.5 hours and the reaction mixture was left overnight with stirring. Then the mass was poured onto ice (200.0 g), the ether layer was evaporated. The residue was distilled in an oil pump vacuum to give 75.0 g (291.0 mmol, 48%) of compound 2.
