Tolterodine hydrobromide (100.33 g, 246.9 mmol), 1000 ml of acetone and 500 ml of water were mixed together. The pH was adjusted to about 11.1 by adding aqueous sodium hydroxide (50%). After cooling down to 2+/-2°C the mixture was stirred for 90 minutes.The white solid that precipitated, was filtered and charged again into the vessel and suspended with 1000 ml of water. The suspension was stirred for 30 minutes at 25+/-5°C, and the white solid was filtered under vacuum. The cake was washed with water and the obtained solid was dried in a tray oven at 6O0C for 4h minimum, until constant weight to obtain 73.06 g (224.45 mmol) of tolterodine base, yield 90.92%.Assay: 99.36%KF: 0.04%HPLC purity: 99.06% (chemical)
