As depicted above, 2,4(1 H, 3H)- quinazolinedione (2Og, 123.3 mmol) was dissolved in 315ml OfPOCl3 and heated to reflux for 2.5 hours. After cooling to room temperature, the mixture was concentrated in vacuo to remove excess POCl3, poured into saturated aqueous NaHCO3, and extracted with dichloromethane. The product was isolated from the extract 24.3 g (99%)
