1-6-1.1 Synthesis of 2-bromo-5-methyl-4-nitrophenol
1-Bromo-2-fluoro-4-methyl-5-nitrobenzene (4.57 g) was dissolved in dimethyl sulfoxide (39 mL), a 1 M aqueoussodium hydroxide solution (39 mL) was added, and the mixture was stirred at 100°C for two hours. The reaction solutionwas cooled to 25°C, 1 M hydrochloric acid (80 mL) was added, and the mixture was extracted with ethyl acetate. Theorganic layer was washed with water and saturated saline and dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate. The drying agentwas removed by filtration and the filtrate was concentrated under reduced pressure to give the target compound (4.30 g).
