Steps:

4.2.2.1 (Z)-N′-Hydroxy-pyridine-2-carboxamidine (45)

General procedure: 2-cyanopyridine (2.5g, 24.01mmol) was dissolved in EtOH (60mL) treated with K₂CO₃ (5.97g; 43.22mmol; 1.8 equiv) and H₂NOH·HCl (3.0g; 43.22mmol; 1.8 equiv) and heated to reflux for 12h. The mixture was diluted with diethyl ether when it was cooled to room temperature. The product was collected by filtration, washed with water, and dried under an infrared lamp. The compound was used without further purification. Yield: 1.5g (45.5%).
