Steps:
2.4. Synthesis of alkyl bromides (3a-l)
General procedure: To a solution of aryl alcohol (2a-l) (1 g) in ether (10 mL) was added phosphorus tribromide (0.5 equiv) and stirred for 0.5 h at 0 °C. After completion of reaction, excess phosphorus tribromide was quenched by adding sodium carbonate solution and then the residue was dissolved in EtOAc (100 mL) and washed with water (2 ×100 mL). The product containing organic layer was dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate and the product was purified by passing through a column chromatography.
