Steps:
6.1 Step 1: 1-(3,5-bis(benzyloxy)phenyl)ethanone
To a clear solution of l-(3,5-dihydroxyphenyl)ethanone (20 g, 131 mmol) in acetone (260 mL) was added potassium carbonate (47.2 g, 342 mmol) and benzyl bromide (35.9 mL, 302 mmol). The reaction mixture was stirred at gentle reflux for 18 h, then the mixture was filtered through a short pad of silica/celite and washed with acetone. The filtrate was concentrated to furnish l-(3,5-Z>/s(benzyloxy)phenyl)ethanone as a white solid (41.6 g, 86% yield).
