Step 2: To the product of Step 1 (2.05 g, 8.8 mmol) in EtOH (20 ml) add 1N NaOH (17.5 ml). Stir 20 h, neutralize with 1N HCl, concentrate, and partition with CH2Cl2 and water. Wash with brine, dry (MgSO4) and concentrate to obtain the phenol as a yellow oil
