Ethyl 2 - ((4,6-dimethylpyrimidin-2-yl) thio) acetate was dissolved in absolute ethanol and 85% hydrazine hydrate (10.5 g , 0.213 mol). After the addition, the reaction mixture was heated to reflux, and the reaction was terminated by TLC. The crude product was obtained by washing, suction filtration and drying. 2 - ((4,6- -yl) thio) acetohydrazide as a white solid in 92% yield
