General procedure for the preparation of compounds 4a~c
General procedure: The appropariate dibromoalkane (1.5 mmol) was added to a solution of 4-hydroxycoumarin (1.5 mmol) and potassium carbonate (3 mmol) in acetone (50 mL) with stirring. The mixture was heated at refluxed and the reaction was monitored by TLC. After cooling, the mixture was separated and the solvent was evaporated. The crude product was recrystallized from ethyl alcohol to yield compounds 4a~c.
