General Procedure for the Synthesisof Symmetrical Esters of Dialkyl 4-(Nitrophenyl)-2,6-dimethyl-1,4-dihydropyridine-3,5-dicarboxylate (3a-l)
General procedure: To a 50-mL round-bottomed flask, ammonium acetate (0.162 g,2.10 mmol) was added to a stirring solution of 2-nitrobenzaldehydeor 3-nitrobenzaldehyde (0.254 g, 1.65 mmol) and thecorresponding alkyl acetoacetate (3.35 mmol) in methanol or2-propanol (10 mL). The reaction mixture was protected fromlight and heated under reflux for 12-24 h. After cooling, theprecipitate was filtered and purified by crystallization frommethanol or 2-propanol to afford the corresponding product.
