Steps:

2.7 Catalytic activity of 1a and 1b in acylation reaction
General procedure: Aryl halides (2mmol) and aldehydes (2.4mmol) in 1, 4 - dioxane (20cm3) were mixed together. The base cesium carbonate (6mmol) and the respective catalyst (0.004mmol) in dichloromethane (5cm3) were then added to the solution and stirred at 100°C. The reactions were monitored by TLC and the products were isolated by silica gel column chromatography using ethyl acetate and hexane as eluents. The products were characterized by 1H NMR, 13C NMR and melting point determination followed by their comparison with the standard literature data.
