Synthesis of decyl methacrylate monomer (9)
Monomer 9 was synthesised following a previously publishedmethod (Yildiz et al., 2011). 250 mg of methacrylic acid 4(2.9 mmol), were added to 5 ml of 1-decanol 8 and sulfuric acidin catalytic amounts. The solution was stirred for 48 h at roomtemperature. After reaction the mixture was purified by silica gelchromatography eluting with Exane/EtOAc, gradient from 100%Exane to 95:5 to give compound 9 in quantitative yield.
