Intermediate 10; (3-Cyclopropyl-5-hydroxy-phenyl)-acetic acid methyl ester; [0094] Step A; (3,5-Dihydroxy-phenyl)-acetic acid (5 g, 29.7 mmol) is dissolved in MeOH (30 mL). Catalytic amounts of thionyl chloride (-0.25 ml_) are added and the solution is stirred at rt overnight. The solvent is removed in vacuo to give (3,5-dihydroxy- phenyl)-acetic acid methyl ester 6 (5.44 g, quant.): MS calcd. for C9Hi iθ4 (M+H*) 183.1, found 183.0.
