(A-1) 259.0 g (3 mol) of methyl acrylate (MA) and 0.13 g of MEHQ were charged into a 1000 mL flask equipped with a stirrer, a thermometer, a dropping device and a condenser, and sodium methoxide (SM ) 0.16 g (3 mmol) and 106.0 g (3.3 mol) of methanol (MeOH) was gradually added with stirring. After completion of the addition, the reaction mixture was heated to 60 ° C. while stirring, and the reaction was further continued for 6 hours while refluxing methanol. Thereafter, the reaction solution was returned to room temperature, neutralized with an equivalent amount of sulfuric acid, neutralized salt was separated by filtration, unreacted raw material was removed by distillation, and 352.5 g of methyl β-methoxypropionate (abbreviation: MPM) Obtained. The purity was 99.9%, and the yield was 99%.
