A mixture of 4-hydroxycinnamic acid (8.2 g, 50 mmol) and a drop OfH2SO4 in methanol (30 mL) was heated to reflux overnight. Then the solvent was evaporated, the residue was dissolved in ethyl acetate, washed with saturated NaHCO3 solution twice, brine, dried over MgSO4, concentrated to give the title compound 0501-66 as white solid (8.7 g, 98%): LCMS: 179 [M+l]+.
