C2F5CHO was prepared by reduction of C2F5CO2CH2C2F5with NaAlH2(OC2H4OCH3)2in THF followed by distillation from concentrated sulfuric acid. The aldehyde was distilled directly into C2F5CH2OH as described in Example 2 to yield a solution of C2F5CH(OH)OCH2C2F5in pentafluoropropanol (weight gain of 14.0 g in the pentafluoropropanol solution).
