6g of compound of formula IV and 8.5g2-bromo-4,5-dimethoxybenzyl bromide was dissolved in 60 mL of methyl ethyl ketone and heated to reflux. The reaction was completely detected by TCL, filtered, washed with methyl ethyl ketone and dried under reduced pressure to obtain 11.6 g of pivavironium bromide. The yield was 92.1%. The cis isomer is ≥99% and the trans isomer is ≤1%.
