Example 52; (Trimethylsilyl)methylmagnesium chloride; To a well-stirred mixture of magnesium turnings (3.75 g, 154.04 mmol) in 120 mL of THF was added (chloromethyl)trimethylsilane (9.44 g, 77.02 mmol) in 37 mL of THF. The mixture was stirred for 3 h at room temperature to ensure complete generation of the organomagnesium species and was then used fresh.
