Methyl 2-bromo-1-methyl-1H-imidazole-5-carboxylate
To a solution of methyl 1-methyl-1H-imidazole-5-carboxylate (302 mg) in carbon tetrachloride (5 mL), NBS (460 mg) and 2,2'-azobis(2-methylpropionitrile) (39.2 mg) were added, and the mixture was stirred at 90°C for 4.5 hours.
The reaction mixture was concentrated under reduced pressure, and the obtained residue was purified by column chromatography (hexane:ethyl acetate) to obtain the title compound (201 mg).
