EXAMPLE 1 To 967 g. of decylalcohol in a 2 liter 4-necked glass reaction flask, 30 g. of sodium hydroxide and 2.0 g. of nickel were added during agitation. The mixture was heated to 230°-250° C. and stirred for 6 hours while water of reaction was removed by distillation. The contents of the reactor was then allowed to cool and product, 2-decyl-decan-1-ol, was recovered in greater than 90% yield. The product, purified by distillation, was identified by gas liquid partition chromatography (GLC).
