1-(1) Synthesis of
A 10 L round bottom flask was charged with 335 g (1.5 mol) of 3-bromo-1-naphthol and 33.5 g (31.0 mmol) of Pd(PPh3)4, and 430 g (3.1 mol) of potassium carbonate and 246 g (2.0 mol) of phenylboronic acid were charged, 2 L of toluene, 1,4-dioxane, 1 L of water was added and the mixture was refluxed for 16 hours. The reaction was terminated, the organic layer was separated and the aqueous layer was extracted twice with 1 L of toluene. The collected organic layer was concentrated under reduced pressure and recrystallized from toluene and methanol to obtain
