(1) A mixture of 3-(pyridin-3-yl)propenoic acid (10.0g, 67mmol), 10% palladium-activated carbon (1g), methanol (100mL) and ethanol (100mL) was stirred overnight under hydrogen atmosphere. The resultant reaction mixture was filtered, evaporated, and dried to give 3-(pyridin-3-yl)propionic acid (10.2g, quantitative). 1H NMR(DMSO-d6) δ:2.52(2H, m), 2.81(2H, t, J=7.6Hz), 7.27-7.31(1H, app-dd, J=4.6Hz, 7.9Hz), 7.63-7.67(1H, app-dt, J=7.9H, 1.7Hz), 8.38-8.40(1H, app-dd, J=1.7Hz, 4.6Hz), 8.44-8.45(1H, app-d, J=1.7Hz)
