To a solution of 4-bromo-3,5-dimethylaniline (10 g, 50.0 mmol) in CH2CI2(150 mL) was added trifluoroacetic anhydride (14.70 g, 70.0 mmol) at 0 °C. The reaction was stirred at 0 °C for 2h and quenched with NaHCO3solution. The mixture was extracted with CH2Cl2(2 x 150 mL) and the organic layers were combined, washed with NaHCO3solution, washed with brine (80 mL), dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate, the solids were removed by filtration and the filtrate was concentrated under reduced pressure to afford N -(4-bromo-3,5-dimethylphenyl)-2,2,2-trifluoroacetamide (14 g, 90%) as a gray solid. LC-MS (ESI, m/z): 296 [M+H]+.
