General Method for hydrogen ation of alkyneThe desired alkyne is dissolved in ethanol and a heterogeneous mixture of ' palladium on carbon is added. The reaction is shaken for 2 hours under 40 psi of H2. Filtration through celite and removal of the solvent in vacuo gives the desired product.; 6-Phenylhexan-l-olThe title compound was prepared from 6-phenylhex-5-yn-l-ol in 70 % (241 mg) yield. 1H NMR (400 MHz, CDCl3) δ 7.18-7.27 (m, 2H), 7.16-7.18 (m, 3H) 3.63 (t, 2H, J = 6.4 Hz), 2.61 (t, 2H5 J= 8.0 Hz), 1.56-1.69 (m, 4H)5 1.37-1.40 (m, 5H).
