Steps:
1.A Step A: Preparation of ethyl 4-acetylbenzoate
To the solution of 4-acetylbenzoic acid (1000 g, 6.1 mol) in ethanol (2 L) was slowly added H2SO4(10 mL) at 0 C, and the mixture was refluxed at 80 C for 3 h. The solvent was removed under vacuum and the residue was extracted with ethyl acetate, washed with saturated brine, dried over anhydrous Na2SO4, filtered and concentrated. The residue was purified by chromatography with petroleum ether and ethyl acetate (10 :1) to afford ethyl 4-acetylbenzoateasa white solid (1077 g, 92%) .1H NMR (CDCl3, 600 MHz) δ: 8.11 (d, J = 7.6 Hz, 2H) , 7.99 (d, J = 7.7 Hz, 2H) , 4.39 (q, J = 7.0 Hz, 2H) , 2.63 (s, 3H) , 1.40 (t, J = 7.1 Hz, 3H) . MS (ESI, m/z) : 193.1 [M+H]+.
