Steps:
4.2.1. Preparation of 2-ethyl-4,5-dihydrooxazole (14a)24
Ethyl orthopropionate (50.0 mmol, 9.9 mL), 2-aminoethanol (50.0 mmol, 3.0 mL), and acetic acid (3.0 mmol, 173 μL) were injected, under Argon, in a Schlenk tube fitted with a pierceable septum (blocked by a screw cap) and a magnetic stirring bar. The apparatus was then heated with an oil bath, thermostated at 105 °C. After 24 h, the reaction mixture was cooled. Distillation, under atmospheric pressure, gave the product 14a, [29b] and [45] as a colorless liquid (3.71 g, 75%), bp 123-126 °C.
