Example 14 A solution of ethyl 2-(5-ethoxycarbonylamino-1,2,4-thiadiazol-3-yl)-2-methoxyiminoacetate (19.6 mg; 7.15*10-2 mmol) in aqueous 1N NaOH solution (286 μl; 286*10-1 mmol) was stirred at 100° C. for 4 hours. After cooling, the mixture was acidified with 6N hydrochloric acid to pH 1. The mixture was extracted with ethyl acetate (0.3ml*5) and the extract was dried over sodium sulfate and then concentrated to give 2-(5-amino-1,2,4-thiadiazol-3-yl)-2-methoxyiminoacetic acid (10.8 mg; yield 74.7%) as white crystals. m.p. 179°-181° C. NMR δ (DMSO-d6): 3.90(3H.s.CH3), 8.20(2H.bs.NH2)
