10% Palladium on charcoal (500mg) was added to a solution of 1, 3-dimethoxy-2- azidopropane (Method 56; 2g, 0. 014mol) in ethanol (40m1) and the mixture stirred under an atmosphere of hydrogen at ambient temperature for 6 hours. The catalyst was removed by filtration through diatomaceous earth and the filter pad washed with ethanol to give a solution of the title compound in ethanol (20ml).
