Steps:
ethyl 1H-indole-6-carboxylate (19a)
A solution of 1H-indole-6-carboxylic acid (0.5 g, 0.3 mmol) in EtOH (15 mL), then SOCl2 (0.22 mL, 3 mmol)was added dropwise into the solution at 0 °C and refluxed for 3 h. The solvent was removed under reduced pressure and the residue was dissolved in ethyl acetate (50 mL) and then washed with saturated NaHCO3 solution, finally washed with water and dried over anhydrous Na2SO4. The solvent was removed under vacuum to get carboxylic acid ester. The ester obtained was taken as such in the next step of synthesis. LC-MS m/z: 162.2 [M+H]+.
